Janet Marie Sebastianelli

Janet Marie Sebastianelli, 60, of Pittston Township, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore after a courageous 15-month battle with cancer.

Janet was born Janet Tarantini to Joseph J. Tarantini and Bernardine (Debbie) Hughes at Mercy Hospital (in Wilkes-Barre) on Saturday, June 9, 1962. She graduated from Seton Catholic High School in Pittston in 1981. Janet married her high school sweetheart, Joseph John Sebastianelli, on Saturday, October 15, 1988, at Saint Joseph Marello Parish at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church in Pittston. She dedicated her life to her family and the elderly. She worked as a nurses’ aide at Wesley Village in Jenkins Township since she was a teenager. During the COVID-19 pandemic, she served on the COVID response team.

She loved spending time with her husband and two sons, Joseph and Louis. She enjoyed vacationing with her family in Wildwood and Gettysburg. She also loved antiquing with her husband on weekends and decorating for the holidays.

Janet is preceded in death by her father-in-law, Constantino (Bello) Sebastianelli (March 3, 1993), and her father, Joseph J. Tarantini (February 1, 2003).

Janet is survived by her husband of 34 years, Joseph J. Sebastianelli; sons, Joseph C. and Louis of Pittston Township; sisters, Deborah Hughes and Donna Caswell of Duryea; brother, Joseph Tarantini of Harding; mother, Bernardine (Debbie) Hughes of Duryea; stepfather, Robert Hughes of Duryea; stepmother, Myra Tarantini of Plains Township; several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2023, at 12:30pm from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian Burial at 1:00pm at St. Joseph Marello Parish Church, 237 William St., Pittston with Fr. Paul McDonnell officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Wednesday evening, February 8th from 5pm-8pm. Interment will be held at St. Rocco’s Cemetery, Pittston.
