Pamela (Pokorney) Suwinsky


A memorial mass for Pamela (Pokorney) Suwinsky, who passed away in April in California, will be held Saturday, June 3rd at 10:30am in Queen of the Apostles Church, Hawthorne St. Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating.

She was born August 28th 1954 and was the daughter of the late Sophie and Walter Pokorney of Pittston Junction.

Pam was a member of St. Anthony’s Parish in California. She was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Penn State University, and the University of Chicago.

Pam’s passion for books led her to a successful career as an editor/writer in Chicago, Boston, and California.

Anyone who knew Pam, knew she loved all animals. She spent one of her vacations at a “No Kill” animal shelter called Best Friends in Kanab, Utah tending to the animals. She owned two Newfoundland dogs, Thatcher and Wilson, and also two cats.

In addition to her parents, Pam was preceded in death by brothers; Ron, Gene, and Bob Pokorney; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Pokorney; brother-in-law, Leo “Buzz” McGlynn; and nephew, Jeff McGlynn.

Surviving are sister, Patricia McGlynn, Avoca; nieces, Erin McGlynn Dutcher, Quakertown, Jacqueline Di Gregorio, Old Forge; nephews, Ron Pokorney, Duryea Richard Pokorney, Roaring Brook Twp., Eric McGlynn, Forty Fort; great-niece, Melody McGlynn; great-nephews, Russ McGlynn, Jordan Dutcher, Rich Pokorney, and Dante Di Gregorio; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Pokorney and Mary Ellen Pokorney. Also surviving are numerous cousins and caring friends.

Pam’s family would like to thank all who gave mass offerings and prayers for Pam.
