Emilie Matichak


Emilie Matichak, 76, of Old Forge, passed away Sunday, March 20th at the VNA Hospice Geisinger CMC Hospital, Scranton. She was born in Duryea, August 29th, 1939 and was the daughter of the late Leo and Victoria (Murzenski) Pakutka.

Emilie was a member of Nativity Of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. She was a graduate of Duryea High School Class of 1957. Emilie worked for various companies in Chicago. Upon returning to NEPA, she worked many years for Addy Asphalt, and retired from the PA State Department of Welfare.

Emilie’s laughter filled a room. Whether it be with family or friends, she was always the life of the party. Her generous spirit, love for family and sense of humor will greatly missed. She enjoyed trips to New York City, shopping, pedicures, and especially the casinos.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, William Matichak, and her sisters, Helen Pakutka and Leah Serovinski.

Emilie is survived by her brother, Paul Pakutka of Duryea and her sister, Anne Shrader and her husband, Donald of Duryea. Also surviving is her brother-in-law, Robert Serovinski; nieces and nephews, Lauren Gedrich and her husband, Richard; Lynne Amicone and her husband, Vito; Jude Shrader and his wife, Donna; Joseph Pakutka and his wife, Lori; and Steven Serovinski; and many great-nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John V. Polodnak officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the church from 9:00am until time of service. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
