George F. Aldrich


George F. Aldrich, 79, of Avoca passed away Sunday, March 27th at the VNA Hospice at Geisinger CMC Hospital. He was born in Avoca, May 14th, 1936 and was the son of the late George F. Aldrich Sr. and Catherine (Evans) Aldrich.

George was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church, Avoca. He was a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1953. After high school, he joined the United States Marine Corp, of which he was very proud, and served during the Korean War. After the war, George and his family moved to New Jersey and he worked for the Ford Motor Company. He and his family then located back to NEPA where he worked for the Garwood Company, Exeter, GNB Batter, and he retired from Excide Battery, Dunmore. George was a member of the Avoca VFW and the West Side Social Club, Avoca. He was an avid sports fan always rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles, the Philadelphia Phillies and Penn State Football. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Jean Pointon.

George is survived by his wife of 57 years, Nellie (Karp) Aldrich; his sons, James Powell and his wife Kathleen of Avoca, George Aldrich III and his wife Jeanne of Avoca, and his daughter Ellen Aldrich, Avoca. Also surviving are his sisters, Kate Guziewicz of Avoca and Martha Zaleski of Avoca; 7 grandchildren, Francine Powell, James Powell, Matthew Powell, Joshua Batch, Julia Aldrich, Lauren Aldrich, and William Aldrich, three great-grandchildren, Jordyn, Kailyn, and Domenica; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday March 30th at 10:00am at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Sharon Dietz of the Bethel United Methodist Church officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, March 29th from 5-8pm. The AMVETS Honor Guard will provide military honors on Wednesday Morning.
