Helen Barbara Opalack, 92, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 18th as the result of natural causes. She was born in Larksville, PA on February 1st, 1924 and was the daughter of the late Thomas Kormis and Stella (Dringo) Kormis.
She was a graduate of Larksville High School. Upon marrying, she moved to New Jersey and spent most of her adult life in Clark, NJ and the Poconos. In her professional life, she spent decades as a senior official in the Clark Municipality before retiring and moving with her husband to Florida.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of almost 60 years, Frank P. Opalack, who died January 2005 and her son Thomas C. Opalack, who died in September 2014.
She is survived by her son Paul, of Washington DC; her grandchildren, Matthew Opalack, Kate Watts, Margaret Opalack and Kelsey Opalack; and great-grandchildren, Luke and Sheridan Opalack and Jackson and Josefine Watts. Also surviving are her sisters, Florence Walker of Delray Beach, FL and Joan Yermal of Virginia Beach, VA and her brother Thomas Kormis of Plymouth, PA.
Helen was gentle and caring with family and friends and she loved her arts and crafts. She was a virtuoso of fine handiwork whether she was creating an intricate hooked rug, an elegant frock, a fancy cake decoration, or exquisite needlepoint, she did it all with flair and skill. Helen took on life with a steely determination and was deeply proud of her husband and family. She was a force.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Joseph Verespy officiating. Friends may call on Saturday, April 23rd at Sacred Heart Church from 9:00am until the time of Mass. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery.
