Martin C. McLaughlin


Martin C. “Peepop” McLaughlin , 83, of Avoca, died on Thursday, May 12th at the Moses Taylor Hospital , Scranton. He was born in Pittston Junction, December 21st, 1932 and was the son of the late William and Anna Burns McLaughlin.

Martin graduated from Pittston High School class of 1952. He was a 20 year Navy Veteran and served in the Korean and Vietnam Wars. While serving in Vietnam, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal with the “V” Device. While serving on his first tour in Bremerhaven, Germany, he met and married the love of his life Marianne Friskemuth, “his Anne”, they would have been married 60 years in September.

In addition to his parents, Martin is preceded in death by his brothers, William and Eugene.

He is survived by his wife, Marianne; son, Clark McLaughlin and his wife, Diane and grandson, Michael of Newark, DE; brothers, Gerard McLaughlin, Levittown, James McLaughlin, Florida and sister, Ell Ann (Susie) Reh of Somerville, NJ; as well as many nieces and nephews.

A blessing service will be held on Monday, May 16th at 7:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen Of The Apostles Parish, Avoca officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening from 5pm until time of service.
