James George


James George, 80, of Avoca, passed away Saturday, June 18th at Geisinger CMC Hospital, Scranton. He was born in Avoca, November 28, 1935 and was the son of the late William and Catherine (Clark) George.

James was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. He was a 1954 graduate of Avoca High School. After high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served during the Korean War. James worked for over 33 years for Nelson’s Upholstery in Kingston, until the time of its closing and worked until retirement at Topps Chewing Gum, Duryea. James was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Marie (George) O’Neill, and his brother, Raymond George.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Ann (Algar) George; his granddaughter, Grace O’Neill; his brother, William and his wife Rita George; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 22nd at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Church, Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, June 21st from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
