William “Bill” Ash


William “Bill” Ash, 73, Avoca, passed away Wednesday. Born in Avoca, he was a son of the late Lester F. and Myrtle Griffin Ash.

He was a 1960 graduate of Avoca High School, where he played football. He was the owner and operator of “Over The Hill Dairy”, Avoca until his time of death. Previous to being self-employed, he was a driver for Balford Farms and Canada Dry.

In his early years, Bill was an avid hunter spending time with his father on hunting trips. He also enjoyed watching sporting events with his grandchildren. Bill will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Leonard Ash, former wife Patricia Gedrich Mathews, and brother-in-law, Jack Pollick.

Surviving are a daughter, Michele Coolbaugh and husband, Hugh, Duryea; a son, William Ash Canter and husband, Adam, San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Amber, Melonie, and Hughie Jr. Coolbaugh; a sister, Nancy Pollick, Clarks Summit; a sister-in-law, Ann Ash, Pittston; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Dale Pepper, St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in Marcy Cemetery, Duryea. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8pm at the funeral home.

His family would like to thank Dr. Sheerer and his nurse, Carol, for the excellent care provided to him. Also, thank you to Dr. Heim for all his encouragement throughout his final months.
