George “Oddo” Gillow


George “Oddo” Gillow, 84, of Exeter, passed away on Friday, July 29th at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in Duryea, July 28, 1932, he was the son of the late George and Wanda (Janoski) Gillow.

George was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish (Holy Rosary Church), Duryea. He was a graduate of Duryea High School. After high school, he joined the US Army and served during WWII. Throughout his life, he worked for various local business and retired from the Pennsylvania Gas and Water Company with over 20 years of service. George was a past president of the Duryea Polish Falcons Social Club and a member of the Duryea V.F.W. In his earlier years, George was a competitive weight lifter and received many awards in weightlifting competitions, both locally and regionally. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Charles Gillow.

George is survived by his wife of 56 years, the former Eleanor (Krause) Gillow; his sons, Richard and his wife, Lisa of Avoca and Bruce of Exeter; grandchildren, Amanda Balendy and Christopher Gillow; and his great-grandson, Logan Balendy.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 2nd at 10:45am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John V. Polednak officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday morning, August 2nd from 9:00am until time of service. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea.
