John Gray


John Gray, 79 of Thornhurst, formerly of Avoca, died on Sunday, August 7th at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Born in Moosic, October 5th, 1936, he was the son of the late John and Francis (Decker) Gray.

John was a graduate of Moosic High School. After high school, he became the owner and operator of Gray’s Auto Body Shop, Avoca until its closing in 2000. John and his wife enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas, Nevada. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Marie (Capp) Gray, who died October 18th, 2013 as well as his brothers, Thomas and William Gray and sisters, Shirley Reindosh and Jenny Samsak.

John is survived by his children, John Byron Gray III and his wife, Roxann Wylie of Plymouth; Robin Scaturro and husband, Joseph of Thornhurst; and Jessica Gilbert and her husband, Raymond of Stowe, PA. Also surviving is his brother, Warren Gray and his wife, Betty of Littiz, PA; grandchildren, Rachael Scaturro, Jared Gray, and Kelly Wasielewski; great-grandchildren, Danie and Isabell Wasielewski; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday evening, August 9th at 6:00pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, August 9th from 4:00pm until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 600 Baltimore Dr., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.
