Elizabeth “Bettie” (Levandoski) Tonkin, 89, a resident of Duryea, died on Monday, August 29th at her home with her family by her side. She was born and raised in Duryea. Bettie was the youngest child of Edna (Rava) Levandoski and Anthony Levandoski.
Bettie worked as a seamstress most of her life in the local garment industry. She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea and was educated in the Duryea School system. Bettie was affectionately known as “Mom” to everyone. She was an avid cook and baker. She loved cooking for every occasion. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her siblings; brothers, Frank, Edward, and John “Chuck” Levandoski; and sisters, Stella Swickel and Margaret Stanavage.
Left to cherish her memory is son, Fred Tonkin, with whom she resided; daughter, Carrie Tonkin of Pittston; granddaughter, Kayla Mullins of New York; her sister, Marion Young of Duryea; as well as a host of nieces and nephews and many friends.
The family would like to thank Dr. Martin Moran for his excellent medical care as well as Annie and the wonderful staff of Dr. Moran’s office.
Funeral services will be held on Friday September 2nd at 11:00am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 11:30am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John V. Polednak officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening, September 1st from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea.
