Robert J. Atwell, 83, of Duryea, passed away on Sunday, September 4th at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. Born in West Avoca, March 18th, 1933, he was the son of the late Fred and Hulda (Williams) Atwell.
Robert was a member of St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church, Avoca. He retired from the US Air Force in 1973, after serving for 22 years. He served as a small arms instructor and was an expert marksman. Robert served during the Koran War and Vietnam. After his retirement from the Air Force, he worked and retired from Fitchburg Coated Products, Moosic from 1974-1995.
Robert was also known by many as “TEX”. He enjoyed wearing classic western style clothing and loved movies starring Clint Eastwood. Robert was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who and knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Atwell.
Robert is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Betty (Davies) Atwell; his son, Robert Atwell Jr. and wife, Christine of Pennsdale, Pa; daughter, Denise H. Davailus and husband, Robert of Plains Twp.; and grandchildren, Adrienne Cober-Dickerson and Rhian Singer. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be privately held at the convenience of the family. Interment will be held at the Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
