Eugene J. Gardner, 63, of Avoca died on Saturday, October 8th at his home. He was born in Avoca, April 15th, 1953 and was the son of the late Bernard P. Gardner and Doris C. (Hunt) Gardner.

Gene was a 1971 graduate of Pittston Area High School. Upon graduating, he joined the US Navy and served for four years on the USS Inchon. Gene retired after 30 years from the Tobyhanna Army Depot. Eugene loved the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting, and fishing. He was a loving son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Bernard P. Gardner, who passed away December 5th, 2012.

Eugene is survived by his sister, Nancy Patterson and her husband, Thomas “Red” Patterson of Avoca; nieces and nephews, Amy and her husband, Joseph Mihalka, Christopher Patterson, Michael and his wife, Megan Delaney Patterson, and Krista Gardner Brown and husband, Ben Brown; great-nieces and nephews, Sarah, Megan, and Maura Mihalka and Brennan and Delaney Patterson; and sister-in-law, Ann Marie Gardner.

Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
