John “Canary” Bryk


John “Canary” Bryk, 85, a lifelong resident of Dupont, died peacefully at his home on November 23, 2016 with family at his side.

He was the son of Frank Bryk and Sophie Zondlo Bryk. A member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, John was a graduate of Dupont High School and a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Korean War. Early in his life, John was employed at McKetric-Williams dress factory, then worked for over 20 years as a machinist at Dupont Tool & Machine, until he retired. John was a member of the Shiny Mountain Sportsman's Club and a social member of the Elm Street Sportsman's Club. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and gardening.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his brothers, Joe of Carteret, NJ and Richard of Dupont.

He is survived by his brother, Walter, Dupont; brother, Vince and wife, Bernadine, Dupont; Sister-in-law Jean Bryk, Carteret, NJ; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 29th at 9:00am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening, November 28th from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery. Military honors will be provided by AMVETS Honor Guard.
