Romaine “Sudsy” Sadowski Gillow

Romaine “Sudsy” Sadowski Gillow joined her husband, Joe, in heaven on November 23, 2016. She was the daughter of the late Anna (Schultz) and Stanley Sadowski. Born and raised in Duryea, June 23rd, 1935, she was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea. She was a proud member of Duryea High School Class of 1953. She served on numerous reunion committees.

She will be greatly missed by the loves of her life, her grandchildren, Sara Lukowich, her baby; Noelle Astolfi, her princess; and Zachary Astolfi, her prince. She enjoyed her friendships and her home was always open to visitors. She was known for her cooking and baking. She loved to travel, especially to Florida and Las Vegas.

She was employed at Craft Oil Corporation as a bookkeeper for many years. Later in life, she and her husband owned Meineke Discount Mufflers in Wilkes-Barre, where she retired from.

She is survived by her daughters, Romaine Astolfi and husband, Michael and Jodi Lukowich and her companion, Lowell Stoss; sisters, Dolores Cerullo and Doris Koenig; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and godchildren. She will be sadly missed by her best friend, MaryAnn Osenkarski.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her goddaughter, and niece, Linda Merrifield; her brother, Stanley Sadowski; and sister, Marie Merrifield; and an infant sister, Dorothy.

The family is thankful to Mountain View Care Center which became Romaine’s home away from home these last few months. Most people are “snow birds” to Florida. Romaine went to Mountain View a few times over the last few years for her vacation. The staff took excellent care of her and she provided them with hours of entertainment.

Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Saturday, November 26th at noon at Nativity of Our Lord Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. John V. Polednak officiating. Friends may call Friday evening, November 25th from 5 pm to 7 pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church. There will be no procession from the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mountain View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Avenue, Scranton, PA.
