Joseph “Curly” Mraz


Joseph “Curly” Mraz, 88, of Olyphant, formerly of Moosic, passed away on Thursday, December 8th at his home. Born in Taylor, January 5th 1928, he was the son of the late George and Anna Mraz.

Joseph attended Taylor High School and later served in the US Army and served during WWII. He worked 49 years at Brooks Manufacturing and later retired from the University of Scranton Maintenance Department.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by brothers, George, John, Mike and Clem; sisters, Mary, Annie, Susan and Sophie; son, Randy; an infant brother, Andrew; and sister, Dorthia.

Joseph is survived by his loving wife, Rose Collins Mraz; sons, Joseph Mraz and wife Marylyn, Richard Collins and wife Ruth, Roy Collins and wife Debbie, Rory Collins and wife Sherri, Robert Collins and wife Kris; daughter Renee Marcinek and husband Myron; and dear sister-in-law Anna Swanek. Also surviving are sixteen grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.

Joe’s religious faith and his family were the most important aspects of his life. He lived his life for his wife and family. He always greeted everyone with a warm “hello” and a joke. There are no words to express the sacrifices he made for his family. A wonderful, caring, generous man, Joe was the kind of person we all should strive to become. He will be greatly missed and forever in the hearts of his family and friends.

A memorial service will be held on Monday morning, December 12th at 10:00am at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip J. Sladicka of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca officiating. Friends may call on Monday morning, December 12th from 9:00am until time of service. AMVETS Honor Guard will provide military honors.
