Richard Cieslak


Richard Cieslak, 74, of Old Forge passed away on Saturday, January 7th at the Regional Hospital, Scranton. Born in Duryea, September 24th, 1942, he was the son of the late John and Lottie (Dombrowski) Cieslak.

Richard was a graduate of Duryea High School. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy and served during the Cold War. He worked many years for the Brooks Pants Factory, Old Forge and retired from Topps Chewing Gum, Scranton with over 30 years of employment. Richard was a diehard Philadelphia Eagles and Phillies fan. He was a member of the VFW, Duryea, the American Legion, Duryea and the Polish Falcons, Duryea. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Bernice Kelly.

Richard is survived by his wife of 51 years, the former Joann (Walter) Cieslak; his sons, Brian, of Exeter and Jeff, of Dupont; and grandson, Nathan Cieslak. Also surviving is his “honorary” daughter, Randi Barcola, of Old Forge; nieces, Nancy Lankowski and her husband, John of Duryea, Doreen Rizzo and her husband, Pete of Duryea; and his beloved border collie, “Skipper”.

A blessing service will take place on Wednesday evening, January 11th at 7:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Deacon Ray Pieretti officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening, January 11th from 5pm until time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 712 S. Keyser Ave., Taylor, PA 18517.
