John Mihalko


John Mihalko, 94, of Pittston Twp. passed away one day after his 94th birthday after a brief illness on Wednesday, January 25th at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Binghamton, NY, January 24, 1923.

John attended schools in Binghamton, NY. After high school, he joined the US Marine Corp. and was ranked as a corporal during WWII and served in the Aleutian Islands Campaign. He was wounded in the invasion of Bougainville and received the Purple Heart. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Maxine (Sisco) Mihalko, who died August 28th, 2010 and also brothers and sisters.

John is survived by his daughter, Doreen Trotta and her husband, Leonard of Pittston Twp.; grandchildren, David Cobb of Georgia and Rhonda McConnel of FL; brothers, Robert and Andrew of NY; his sister Irene Wiggins of NY; and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, at 2:30pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends may call on Saturday, January 28th from 1pm until time of service. AMVETS Honor Guard will provide military honors. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
