Mildred Dzizba Kowalcik, 91, of Dupont passed away peacefully Saturday, February 18, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at Celtic Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Dupont, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Dziuba and was educated in the Dupont Schools.
She had worked for many years as a seamstress in the local garment industry. She had been a waitress for many years at the former McCrory’s, Wilkes-Barre and later retired at the age of 80 from Denny’s, Wilkes-Barre.
She had been a member of the Polish Union and a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church, Dupont.
A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother; time with her family is what gave her the most joy. Sunday dinners, baking, cooking and just spending time with her grandchildren were her most favorite times.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son, John; grandson, Frank; brothers, Matthew and Joseph; and sisters, Ceil Kearney and Frances Doerflen.
She will be sadly missed by her children, Edward, Janet Cefalo and husband, Michael, JoAnn Rafalko and husband, Frank, Jackie Purdy and husband, Mark; grandchildren, Mark, Michelle, Jennifer, Michael, Taryn, Andrew, Charles, Jessica, Chrissy, Nicole, David, and Kaitlyn; 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Marianne Kocylowski; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 9:00 from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a Mass of Christian Bural at 9:30 AM in Sacred Heart Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery.
