Edward Kowalcik, 64, of Yuba City, CA passed away peacefully on April 20, 2017 surrounded by his family after a brief battle with cancer. Born and raised in Dupont, he was the son of the late Edward and Mildred Kowalcik and the grandson of the late Joseph and Mary Dziuba of Dupont.
He graduated from Pittston Area High School in 1971 and served in the U.S. Air Force for seven years. Later, he worked for the U.S. Postal Service in various positions and retired as Postmaster of Calusa, CA after 40 years of service.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Mildred on February 18, 2017; his father, Edward; and his brother, John, all of Dupont. He is survived by his children, Michael (Utah), Taryn and Andrew (CA); stepchildren, Nicole and Sam (CA); eight grandchildren; sisters, Janet Cefalo and husband, Michael of Plains, Jackie Purdy and husband, Mark of Dupont and JoAnn Rafalko and husband, Frank of Mountaintop; as well as nieces and nephews, aunts and uncles, and cousins.
Ed was active in karate and loved to play football, basketball, and golf. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. He always loved to crack a joke and make everyone smile. He was a loving father and brother and will be dearly missed by those who loved him.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 18 at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont. Friends may call from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church with Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Interment will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dupont. AMVETS Honor Guard will provide military honors.
