Cherie (Greatrix) Monie, 89, formerly of Avoca, passed away on Saturday, April 22nd at the Kingston Health Care Center, Kingston. Born in Avoca, December 14th, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Elsie (Tilley) Greatrix.
Cherie was a life-long member of St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Avoca High School. Cherie worked as a self-employed beautician. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Monie, who passed away in 2005 and her sisters, Mildred Daley and Gertrude Greatrix.
Cherie is survived by her son, Thomas and his wife, Sharon of Plains Twp. and her daughter, Millie Monie of Swoyersville. Also surviving is her granddaughter, Sarah Monie and her niece, Thelma O’Connell.
Cherie’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the kindness and care that was giving to Cherie from the doctors, nurses, and staff at the Kingston Health Care Center. They are especially thankful to nurses Nichole and Christine
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, April 27th at 10:00am at St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church, 316 Main St., Avoca with Rev. Dale Pepper officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 6-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church for services. There will be no procession from the Funeral Home. Interment will be held at a later date at the Langcliffe Cemetery, Avoca.
