Edith R. Loughney, 79, of Scranton, passed away on Friday, April 28th at the Linwood Nursing and Care Center, Scranton. She was born May 5th, 1937 in Burrell Twp., PA and was the daughter of the late David and Oma (Reese) Beighley.
Edith was a member of St. Matthew’s United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scranton. Edith lived in Arlington, VA and worked for the Navy for 24 years. She moved to Scranton and worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot and for Chamberlain, Scranton. Edith enjoyed traveling. She set foot in all 50 states and several foreign countries. She enjoyed concerts, theatre and all of Planet Earth’s beauty. Edith and her husband, Frank, who passed away June 27th, 2016, spent 29 winters in the State of FL.
Edith enjoyed life regardless of the bumps along the way. She would like to thank her family and friends for being in her life. As Edith stated in her words “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept faith and I’m on my way to somewhere else.”
In addition to her parents, and her husband, Frank, she is preceded in death by her step-daughter, Ruth Ann; her two sisters; and one brother.
She is survived by her son, Paul Post of Georgia; her brother,Carl Beighley and his wife, Linda of Apollo, PA; step-son, Frank Loughney and his wife, Margaret; nieces and nephews; and extended family.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 4th at 11:00am at St. Matthew’s United Evangelical Lutheran Church, 425 Jefferson Ave., Scranton with Pastor David Searing, officiating. Friends may call on Thursday morning, May 4th from 10:00am until time of service. Interment will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice or to the American Cancer Society, 712 Keyser Ave., Taylor, PA 18517.
