Anna Jane Salmon


Anna Jane Salmon, 95, of Moosic peacefully passed away on Friday afternoon, May 12th at her home. A devout wife, mother, and friend, she was married for 63 years to James Salmon who passed in July 2012. Born in Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Margaret (Tigue) Buck.

Jane was a 1940 graduate of Stroudsburg High School and later graduated from Lackawanna Business College. She was employed in the offices of Starkey Farms, Trenton, NJ and later at General Electric and worked for the State of Pennsylvania in Scranton.

Active in many organizations, she was a devout Catholic and a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish (St. Mary’s Avoca) and its Alter and Rosary Society, a lifelong member of Beta Sigma Phi Service Sorority, a former Moosic Girl Scout leader and she was privileged to serve as an officer and member of the Irish Cultural Society. Enjoying exceptional home-making and craft skills, she was the proud recipient of numerous awards and blue ribbons for her quilting, needlework, knitting and craft skills. She was very proud of her legendary gift basket donations of her homemade jams and jellies to the annual Queen of the Apostles Parish Picnic.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two infant children and her brother, Robert Buck.

She is survived by two children, daughter Margaret “Meg” Swantek, her husband Mike and son, Michael of Moosic; a son Patrick and his wife, Kristin of Clarks-Summit; and their six children that she was so proud of for their many accomplishments; Michael Swantek of Oberlin, Ohio, Patrick Salmon of Woodland Texas, Meredith Salmon of Hightstown, NJ, S.N. Dean Salmon U.S.C.G. of Wilmington, NC, and Cadets Scott and Sean Salmon U.S.C.G.A. of New London. CT. She was recently blessed with the addition of a great-grandson, James Salmon of Woodland, Texas. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and outstanding neighbors.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 15th at 9:00am from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, Pa with a mass of Christian burial at 9:30am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, May 14th from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Moscow.
