Dolores L. Kubasko


Dolores L. Kubasko, better known as “Dolly” of Pittston Twp., passed away on Thursday evening, June 15, 2017 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. She was born in Moosic, April 18, 1942 and was the daughter of the late Stephen A. and Lucille (Yankowski) Wzorek.

Dolly graduated from Moosic High School in 1959. Dolly retired after 31 years as Secretary of SS. Peter & Paul (28 years) and Queen of the Apostles Church (3years) in Avoca. Her previous employment was at a Scranton law firm; as a licensed Insurance Agent & Office Manager; a Claims Adjuster and Agent Training; & Prudential.

Polka promoter for over 40 years, Dolly was director of a Polka group, “The Polkaholics”, whose main objective was to promote polka music throughout the Northeastern United States and she was President of The Kryger Fan Club with over 2,000 members from seven states. Dolly, representing Luzerne County, was chosen in 2005 as the Pennsylvania Polka Princess at the PA Farm Show in Hershey. She was Chairperson of the Wilkes University Polish Room Committee’s Kosciuszko Ball for almost 10 years.

Dolly has been the Luzerne County Democratic Chairperson for Ward 2, Pittston Township since 2006 and presently served on the Pittston Township Planning Committee. She also served as Judge of Election for several years. She is also a member of the Luzerne County Democratic Executive Committee; Social member of the Dupont VFW Post #4909; President, Kryger Fan Club; and member of the Jimmy Sturr Fan Club. Dolly also was a member of the Times Tribune bowling league and at one time did score a 300.

She was the wife of George J. Kubasko; and proud mother of 4 daughters; Jodi Ozark and her companion, Rich Lyons of Laflin, PA; Janine Starinsky (Steve), Duryea, PA; Tammy Urbanski (Chris), Pittston Twp. PA; and Kristen Kubasko and fiancée, (Brendan Volker), Westbrook, ME; also an extremely proud grandmother of grandchildren, Sarah Ozark; Stephen, Bridget, Matthew, and Sophia Starinsky, Christopher and Ashlyn Urbanski; brother, Steve (Susan) Wzorek, Olyphant, PA; sister, Bernadine “Bunny” (Bob) Webb, Glendale, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Leo and Stella Jankowski and paternal grandparents, John and Kathryn Wzorek.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Monday, June 19th at 10:00 a.m. at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, June 18th from 5-8 p.m, at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends are asked to go directly to Queen of the Apostles Church for mass on Monday morning, there will be no procession from funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dupont VFW Post #4909 at 401 Main St, Dupont, PA 18641.
