Leola Bartush


Leola Bartush, 92, of Dupont, passed away on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at the Mountain View Care Center, Scranton where she was a resident for the past 6 years. She was born in Taylor, September 24, 1924 and was the daughter of the late William Cox and Amanda (Russell) Cox Bolock.

She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church (SS Peter & Paul), Avoca. She was a 1942 graduate of Duryea High School. After high school, Leola worked in the local garment industry and retired after many years of employment. Leola was the Queen Mother of the Pleasant Valley Girls Red Hat Society. She was a member of the ILGWU. Leola loved being with her family especially spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing Scrabble and bingo and enjoyed reading. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Anthony Bartush Sr., who died June 28th, 1987; her granddaughter, Allyse Fonzo, who passed away April 21, 2017; as well as her siblings, Betty Nossavage, Sarah Paltanavage, Margaret Green, Theresa Webb, Charles Cox, and Dolores Zimmerman.

She is survived by her children, Pauline Reedy and husband, Jerry of Duryea, Anthony Jr. and wife, Ann Marie of Dupont, Paul and wife, Rosemary of Avoca, Kathryn Fonzo and her husband, Vincent of West Pittston, and Lorraine Bartush of Dupont; grandchildren, Christopher Reedy, Jeffrey Bartush, Stephen Bartush, Anthony Bartush III, Carrie Harris, Amy Donnora, Paul Bartush Jr., Amanda Frace, Ashley Cozza, and Afton Fonzo; as well as 11 great-grandchildren; her brother, Robert Bolock of Old Forge and Charlotte Hughes of Inkerman; and many nieces and nephews.

Leola’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Mt. View Care Center Magical Court for their love and care for over 6 years as well as Dr. Guy Fasciana and the nurses and staff of the compassionate care Hospice.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, June 21, at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, June 20th from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca. Family and friends are asked to go directly to Queen of the Apostles Church on Wednesday morning. There will be no procession from funeral home to church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt. View Care Center, 2309 Stafford Ave., Scranton, PA 18505.
