Louise A. Szewczyk

Louise A. Szewczyk, 83, of Duryea, passed away peacefully surrounded by love and her family on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. She was born in Duryea, June 13, 1934, on a bright sunny day, and was the daughter of the late Thaddeus and Mary (Romanecz) Dobrowolski.

She was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea. She was a graduate of Duryea High School, Class of 1952. Louise was a homemaker while her children were young and later was employed by Schott Optical, Duryea.

Louise was a woman of impeccable character and style. She took pride in everything she did from cooking to how she dressed. She loved dressing in pearls, lace and cashmere sweaters. Louise loved her family dearly. She greeted everyone with a smile and “hello! How are you?” Louise loved the simple things in life, changing of the leaves or quiet streets in a winter snowstorm. She loved watching the Little League World Series and college football, walking the beaches from Atlantic City to the Gulf of Mexico. She would pick seashells with excitement.

Louise is the best “Memom” any child could dream of having. She gave countless years of care to her grandchildren and when they grew up she took care of her older sisters daily. She never missed a wrestling match or soccer game, prom, or dance recital. She was at every graduation of her grandchildren from pre-school thru college.

Memom loved New York City and will be remembered lastly with her grandchildren walking the Brooklyn Bridge and attending the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. Memom, you will be missed more than words could ever express. Your love, concern and devotion to our family was exceptional. We only wish everyone could experience the love of “Memom”. The world would be a better place.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, the late Magistrate Walter Szewczyk and her son, Walter Jr., who passed on April 26, 2017; sisters, Doris Carey, Pearl Donley, Jean Dobrowolski; and brother, Thaddeus Dobrowolski;

Louise is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Dunn and her husband, Phil Dunn, whom she adored of Duryea and sons, Paul of Old Forge and Robert Szewczyk of Peckville; grandchildren, Phillip Dunn “My Guy” and his wife, Lindsay of Duryea, Mariah Dunn “Her Sunshine” and fiancé, Ryan Fletcher of Duryea, Crystal, Morgan, and Cassidy Szewczyk of Pittston and Adam Szewczyk of Peckville; her brother, Edwin and wife, Pat of Trucksville; and many nieces and nephews.

Louise’s family would like to thank Linda Patterson and Lindsay Dunn for rides, smiles, and concern; Denise and Kendle Jemoila for visits and nursing care; Robyn and John Kuchinsky for time spent at hospitals and compassion; Mary Lyn and John Galya for being great neighbors and all of your help the past years - she was so appreciative of all that both of you did for her. Thank you all.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 23rd at 11:45am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian Burial at 12:00pm at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr.
