Jessiah J. Tisdel, Sr., 70, of Avoca, passed away on Saturday, October 14th at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital. He was born in Spring Brook, December 21, 1946 and was the son of the late Howard Tisdel, Emma (Lewis) Colianni and his step-father, Vincent Colianni.
Jessiah, attended schools in Clifton, NJ. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life and retired as a driver from Preferred Meals, Moosic.
Jess had a way with words! He could either make you cry or laugh and then his teeth would fall out. He always loved to share a smoke and a coffee with anyone as long as you didn’t interrupt his nap. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Jessiah J. Tisdel, Jr., who died June 18, 2009; his brother, Champ Tisdel and sister, Betty Lukowich; and step-brothers, Vincent and Raymond Colianni; as well as his step-sister, Deborah Colianni.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, the former Gail (Dobkowski) Tisdel; son, Carl of Avoca; daughters, Tracie Mapes of Avoca and Donna and her husband, Kenny Baldrica of Pittston Twp. Also surviving are his sister, Judy Skoranski of Moosic; grandchildren, Emily and Katelyn Tisdel, Brian and Jason Mapes, Branden and Brady Baldrica; great-grandchildren, Jacob Jessiah Tisdel and Darcy Rose LaFierrere; his daughter-in-law, Lisa Tisdel; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 20th at 10:00am at Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Cemetery, Dupont with Fr. Zbigniew Dawid officiating graveside services.
Friends may call on Thursday evening, October 19th from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
