James W. Reap


James W. Reap, 83, of Avoca, died on Monday, January 29th 2018 at his home. He was born in Dupont on June 16, 1934 and was the son of the late James J. Reap and Esther Francis Reap.

He was a member of St. John’s Primitive Methodist Church, Avoca. James was educated in Dupont Schools.

A lifelong outdoorsman and storyteller, he loved spending time in the woods and enjoying nature. He was known to many as a true woodsman. James was a Korean War US Army Veteran, serving in Germany with the combat engineers. Before retiring, he worked for GOEX, Moosic as a powder man and later, for several years, selling military surplus.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Doris Collins Reap; daughter Kathleen Sweeney and husband Joseph, Avoca; sons, James and wife Susan, Avoca and Michael and his wife Diana, Moosic; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several cousins.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, February 2nd at 10:00am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Rev. Marty Garms of the East End Primitive Methodist Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Friends may call on Thursday evening, February 1st from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at the Spring Brook Cemetery, Springbrook. AMVET Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide Military Honors.
