Mary Jane Wrubel


Mary Jane Wrubel, 92, of Duryea passed away on Sunday, April 15th at Wesley Village Nursing Home, Pittston surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Pittston Twp., November 25th, 1925 and was the daughter of the late Jesse and Kathyrn (Flannery) Miller.

Mary Jane was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She attended Pittston Twp. Schools. During WWII, she was employed by Independent Explosives and made munitions for the war effort. Mary Jane started a family with her late husband, John Wrubel, who passed away in May of 1986. After raising her family, she went back to work as a self-employed cleaning lady she worked for St. Mary’s Parochial School; Dairy Dan Ice Cream, Dupont and various private residences.

Devoted to her family, Mary Jane was the quintessential nurturer, homemaker, and caregiver. She took great joy in serving her family from a place of love and will forever be remembered for her caring ways.

In addition to her parents and her husband, she is preceded in death by her son, Brian; grandchildren, Scott and Shawn Ziobro and Jazmyn Wrubel her brother, Jesse Miller Jr. and sister, Kathyrn Wruble.

She is survived by her daughter, Sharon Ziobro and her husband, Leonard of Moosic; sons, John Wrubel and his wife, Therese of Avoca, George Wrubel of Blakley, and Richard Wrubel of Old Forge; daughter-in-law, Jacki Wrubel; brothers, Jack and his wife, Dolores Miller of Suscon and George Miller of Plains. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Sherry Sharp, Dr. Lisa Tricarico, Kelli Kowalczyk, Jonathan Wrubel, Jennifer Vitali, Christopher Wrubel, Brittany Wrubel, and Dylan Wrubel, 12 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Jane’s family would like to thank Dr. Jim Tricarico for his many years of special care of Gram as well as the many nurses and staff at Wesley Village who took care of her for the last 6 years, especially her favorite nurse, Lori.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, April 19, at 11:30am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Thursday morning from 10:00am until time of mass. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Apostles Parish, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA, the Pennsylvania Special Olympics or to the American SIDS Institute.
