Carol E. Adonizio, 70, of Avoca, passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Twp.
She was born in Swoyersville on March 12, 1948 and was the daughter of the late John and Frances Olenick. She was a graduate of Central Catholic High School, Kingston and a 1968 graduate of the Pittston Hospital School of Nursing.
Prior to her retirement, she worked as a registered nurse for nearly 30 years. Beginning her career at Pittston Hospital, she then worked at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Philadelphia. After moving back to the area to start her family, she worked at Wesley Village in Pittston for several years and then worked for a short time at River Street Manor, Wilkes-Barre where she finished her career.
In recent years, her most precious times were spent with her grandchildren. She loved beginning each morning with them sending them off to school and greeting them when they returned home. She also enjoyed cooking, reading various mystery novels, watching an array of television shows and attending church. She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Church, Avoca.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Christine McKenzie and her brother, David Olenick.
Carol is survived by her four children, Philip J. Adonizio (P.J.), Avoca; Michael Adonizio, Avoca; Samantha Distasio and her husband Jack, Avoca; Joseph Adonizio and is wife Samantha, Pittston; grandchildren Andrew and Jacob Adonizio and Olivia Distasio; as well as Philip C. Adonizio, Hanover; Eleanor B. Adonizio, Pittston; and Melinda Drank, Wilkes-Barre Twp.
A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, July 7th at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the church from 9:00am until time of service. Interment will be held at a later date.
