Richard Hokien


Richard Hokien, 64, of Duryea, passed away on Sunday, June 17th at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. He was born in Duryea, January 29, 1954 and was the son of Henry and the late Helen (Kuzara) Hokien.

He was a 1971 graduate of Pittston Area High School. For over 30 years, he was a very talented painter and was a member of the Scranton IBPAT, Local 218.

Richard was an avid fisherman and was always chasing “the next big walleye.” His life was devoted to his children and he was a loving, dedicated father. When he wasn’t out on his boat or repainting one of the walls in his house, Rich loved nice cars and fast engines. He could be found at every local car show in the summers. He also enjoyed collecting stamps and had an extensive collection.

In addition to his father Henry, of Duryea, he is survived by his children, Kaleena, and her husband, Casey Berkosky, of Dupont; Sgt. Richard and his wife Jennifer Hokien, of Kingston; and Spc. William and his wife Jenna Hokien, of Wyoming; his sister Patty and her husband Jaap Poot of the Netherlands; grandchildren Sydney, Sammy, Hayden, and Cailin; his niece Tanya and nephew Jaap.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday. June 20th at 7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services. Inc.. 255 McAlpine St.. Duryea with Fr. John V. Polednak of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea officiating. Friends may call on Wednesday evening from 5pm until time of service. Interment will be privately held at Holy Rosary Cemetery.
