Anna (Lis) Donovan, 88, of Avoca passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at her home. She was born in Avoca, February 6th 1930 and was the daughter of the late Alexander and Bridget Zaremba Lis.
She was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, (St. Mary’s Church), Avoca and a graduate of Avoca High School Class of 1948. Anna worked along with her family in their family run store “Lis’s Store” for several years prior to her marriage. Anna was the quintessential mother who took exquisite care of her children and husband so that they could flourish. Her love and nurturing ways are cherished and will be missed.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, John “Jack” A. Donovan, Sr., who passed away on March 20, 2008, her son Thomas Donovan, her sister Alexandra Haczynski, and brothers Stanley, Alex and Alfred Lis.
Anna is survived by her son John Donovan, Jr. Esq. of West Pittston and daughter Janet Donovan, Ed.D. of Avoca. Also surviving is her brother Albert Lis and his wife Ollie of Old Forge, her sister Amelia Williams of Delaware, and many nieces and nephews.
Anna’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital, Hospice of the Sacred Heart, and the Wesley Village Rehabilitation Center, especially John and Emily, former first grade students of Anna’s daughter Janet, for their kindness, care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca, PA 18641.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 17 at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Monday evening, July 16, from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
