Thomas Heckman


Thomas Heckman, 90, of Moosic, passed away on Friday, August 10, 2018 at Allied Skilled Nursing Center, Scranton. He was born in Moosic, March 4th, 1928 and was the son of the late Russel and Mary (McGarrity) Heckman.

Thomas was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish, Avoca. He was a 1945 graduate of Moosic High School. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy and served during WWII. Thomas worked as a butcher in the local meat packing industry until the 1970’s. Tom retired from Contemporary Homes, Taylor. Tom was the last surviving original member of the Greenwood Sportsmen’s Club, Clifton. He was an avid outdoorsman, NASCAR fan, and loved the Philadelphia Eagles and the Phillies. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Heckman, who died August 8th, 2017; his brother Russel Heckman; and sisters Emma Heckman, and Irene Scaramastra.

Thomas is survived by his son Thomas Heckman, Jr. and his wife Catherine of Dupont; his grandchildren Erica Heckman, Melissa Rice and Michelle Zuerblis; five great-grandchildren; as well as his brother James Heckman of CT his sister Margaret Rudi of Lansdale and many nieces and nephews.

Tom’s family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Allied Services for their kindness, compassion, and excellent care that was shown to Thomas and his family.

Funeral Services will be privately held at the convenience of family.
