Gloria Regula-Balent, 85, of Dupont, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Monday morning, September 3rd, 2018 at the Mt. View Care Center, Scranton. She was born in Dupont, April 1st 1933 and was the daughter of the late Frank and Mary (Bryk) Regula.
Gloria loved her life and brought joy and comfort to everyone she knew. A devoted wife to her husband of 65 years, Joe, they enjoyed traveling and walks around Lake Scranton. Gloria made friends everywhere she went. She had a true affinity for ice cream.
Gloria was a loving mother and she cherished spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her home was a place to gather; her kitchen, a place to laugh and cry and of course enjoy a home cooked meal. Everyone was always welcome there.
Gloria graduated from Dupont High School, Class of 1950. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed designing and making clothes for her children and grandchildren. Early on, she worked in the clothing industry as a seamstress in Dupont, PA. Gloria spent most of her working career at Pittston Area High School and retired from there as cafeteria secretary and bookkeeper. She also served as the Inspector of Elections for Dupont Borough for 30 years. She was a devout Catholic and a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Dupont. She was a member of the Christian Mothers Society, Rosary Society, Sodality, and the church choir. She prayed the rosary daily.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters Theresa (Andrew) Kelleman and Josephine (Chester) Geneczko.
She is survived by her husband Joseph of 65 years; three children, Judy (Robert) Bachkosky, , Mary Beth (Joseph)Tabit, and Joseph (Robin)Balent; six grandchildren, Robert (Stephanie )Bachkosky, Alison Bachkosky (James)Hellmann, Leanne Tabit, Ryan Tabit, Zachary Balent, and Austin Balent; three great-grandchildren, Anna Hellmann, Jack Bachkosky and Hadley Bachkosky; sister-in-laws, Marie Balent and Eleanor Balent; and her brother-in-law, George (Romaine) Balent.
The family would like to express their extreme gratitude and thank you to Mountain View Care Center and especially the Magical Court staff for providing compassionate and tender care and loving support to our Mom and entire family.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8th at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call on Friday, September 7th from 4-7pm. Interment will be held at the parish Cemetery.
