David M. Homschek, Sr., 59, of Avoca, passed away on October 2nd at his home surrounded by his loving family after a brief battle with cancer. He was born in Avoca, February 26th, 1959 and was the son of the late Julius and Sarah “Sally” Singer Homschek.
David attended Pittston Area Schools. He enlisted with the US Army in 1980 and served on the Demilitarized Zone located on the boarder of South and North Korea. David was employed by Jack Williams Tire for many years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Hewitt and his brother, Michael “Mic” Homschek.
He is survived by his son, David and his wife Holly of Avoca and his grandchildren Julia, David, and Jack. Also surviving are his brothers, James and Rodney of Avoca, his sister Mary Beth Sabitus of Old Boston and many nieces and nephews.
A blessing service will be held on Friday, October 5th at 5:00pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen of the Apostles Church officiating. Friends may call for visitation from the time of the service until 8pm. Interment will be held on Saturday, October 6th at 12:30pm at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca with the AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston providing military honors.
