Mary Claire “Moo” Blackwell


Mary Claire “Moo” Blackwell, 85, of Moosic, passed away on Wednesday, December 5th at Allied Hospice and Health Care Center, Scranton. She was born in Wyoming on August 17, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Jack “Tennant” Walsh and Jenny (Lyons) Walsh.

Mary Claire was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. She was a graduate of Wyoming Area High School. She was employed by Bell Telephone, Rocky Glen Amusement Park, Montage Mountan, and she retired from Kmart in Moosic.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Blackwell, who died November 18th, 1994 and her sister, Bobby Thompson.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Jane and her husband, Charles Vermac, Sr. of Avoca, her grandchildren, Charles Jr. and Belle Vermac, and her four-legged companion, Lilly.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 10:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, December 9 from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at the Marcy Cemetery, Duryea.
