Stanley Kapish, Jr.


Stanley Kapish, Jr., 75, of Duryea, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at Wesley Village Nursing and Rehab Center, Pittston. He was born in Duryea on October 14, 1943 and was the son of the late Stanley and Sophie (Stremienczy) Kapish.

Stanley was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea. He was a 1961 graduate of Duryea High School and a graduate of Lackawanna County School of Business. After college, he moved to New Jersey and was employed by the Johns Manville Corp. He then moved back to NEPA with his family and worked for PPL Electric in Harding, PA. Stanley was employed in 1978 by the Delaware & Hudson Railroad and retired as a brakeman with over 30 years of service. He also retired as an independent truck driver, hauling steel for many years.

Stanley loved the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was exceptional at the art of breaking beagles in for rabbit hunting. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Banellis Kapish, who died May 24, 2017 and his son John Kapish, who died March 25, 1988.

He is survived by his sons; Stanley Kapish III and companion Nancy of Duryea and Charlie Kapish and his wife Janelle of Pittston Twp. Also surviving are his granddaughter Sophia Rose Kapish and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Stanley’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Wesley Village for their excellent care, kindness and support.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 17th at 11:00am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 11:30am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Stephenson St. Duryea with Fr. John V. Polednak officiating. Friends may call on Sunday evening, December 16th from 5pm-8pm. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea.
