Albert D. Wanyo


Albert D. Wanyo, 80, of Moosic passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018 at the Regional Hospital of Scranton. He was born in Larksville on April 19, 1938 and was the son of the late Emro and Mary (Ruzbarski) Wanyo.

He was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, Avoca. He was a 1956 graduate of Larksville High School and a graduate of Johnson Technical School. Albert served as the Larksville High School band director. He worked for Gutheinz Meats, Scranton and retired from Johnson Technical College as an instructor in the Electrical Department after 26 years of employment. Albert was an accomplished musician having played with the Skylarks and was the leader of the Pennsylvania Polka Kats for over 50 years, having recorded two albums of music. He loved the outdoors, enjoyed fishing and working in his garden. Albert was also an excellent cook, but most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his siblings; Mary Gryskiewicz, George and Emro Wanyo, and Caroline Sincavage.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Ann Marie Orlowski Wanyo, daughter Lori Wanyo Bradley and her husband Keith, of Moosic, his son A.J. Wanyo and his wife Debbie Dende Wanyo, of Reading. Grandchildren Chancey J. Bradley, Sophie Bradley, Alys Sweimler and her husband Douglas, Dr. Chris D. Wanyo and step-grandaughter Kristen Bradley. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews and a special thank you to Charlynn, Freddy and Alberto.

Albert’s family would also like to thank Dr. Mario Sabastianelle, Dr. Wasique Mirza, Dr. Sethi, the nurses and staff at the I.C.U. and Cath Lab of Regional Hospital of Scranton, also Compassionate Care for their kindness and excellent care.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Pl., Memphis, TN 38105.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 28th at 11:00am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial at 11:30am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Phillip J. Sladicka officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening, December 27th from 5-8pm. Interment will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery.
