Albert Mihalka


Albert Mihalka, 73, of Pittston Twp., passed away on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. He was born in Dupont on August 9, 1945 and was the son of the late Albert and Helen (Boyanowski) Mihalka.

Albert attended Sacred Heart of Jesus Parochial School, Dupont. Throughout his life, he was employed by the Dupont Powder Mill. He worked for many years at the family business, Mihalka Service Station. He was employed by Sathers Candy until its closing and he retired from T.J. Maxx Corporation at the age of 62.

Albert was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, a Life member of the Dupont Hose Company and acted as Sergeant of Arms. He was an active member of the Dupont Polish Club and the Dupont VFW Post 4909. He was Sergeant of the Dupont Fire Police, an honorary member of the AMVETS of Greater Pittston and a member of the High Ridge Hunting Club, Shunk, PA.

During his retirement, he enjoyed playing the Pennsylvania lottery and selling charity tickets for local organizations. Albert always made himself available to help out with the many organizations that he was involved with and was always there to lend a helping hand to family and friends. Most of all he loved to be with his family. He enjoyed spending time with his nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Albert is survived by his brother Joseph and his wife Elizabeth, of Pittston Twp., his nephews Joseph and his wife Amy, Mark and his wife Jeanna and his niece Christy and her husband Robert Savakinas all of Pittston Twp. Also surviving are his great-nieces and great-nephews, Sarah, Magan, and Maura Mihalka, Max and Madelyn Mihalka and Robert and Emily Savakinas.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Friday, March 8th, 2019 at 10:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 217 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Thursday evening, March 7th from 5-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery.
