Lisa Ann Jones Kutra


Lisa Ann Jones Kutra, 48, Roaring Brook Township (formerly Avoca), passed away Monday, March 25, 2019 at Allied Inpatient Hospice.

Born in Avoca on Nov. 3, 1970, she was the daughter of Edward (Ned) and Mary Kay Brogan Jones.

Lisa graduated from Pittston Area High School, class of 1988 and went on to receive her bachelor and master degrees along with her principal certificate from Marywood University. She was currently employed by Stroudsburg School district as a reading specialist/RTII coordinator in the Hamilton Building. Lisa was a member of St. Eulalia’s parish, Roaring Brook.

Lisa lived life to the fullest in spite of her long journey through Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Her acceptance and courage inspired all who had the opportunity to cross paths with her.

Her greatest accomplishment in life were her two daughters who she adored. Her proudest moment was crossing the finish line at the NYC Marathon for Ryan’s Run 6. Her goal in life was to spread awareness across the world about Metastatic Breast Cancer.

Lisa was preceded in death by her two brothers, Craig and David Jones, her maternal grandparents, Kathryn and Thomas Brogan, her paternal grandparents, Edward and Alyce Jones, all from Avoca.

Surviving besides her parents, are her beloved daughters, Cassie and Caroline Kutra and their dad, Chris, her devoted aunts and uncles, Jim and Helen Brogan, Mike and Laurie Brogan, Bob and Maureen Jones, Tom and Beth Jones and cousins, Shawn, Stacy, Susan, Jennifer and Rachel, the Kutra family and niece, Laura.

Special thanks to the Allied Hospice nursing staff, The VNA Home Health nurses, Lisa’s village of friends and family who helped keep her at home as long as possible.

The family is grateful for the support and donation during Lisa’s illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Metastatic Breast Cancer link METAvivor.org, Allied Services Hospice, Morgan Highway, Scranton, or pay it forward to an individual or organization of your choice.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday March 29, at 11:00am at Queen of the Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St. Avoca. With Fr. Phillip Sladicka, Msgn John Jordon and Fr. Thomas Maloney officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening March 28, from 4pm-7pm at the church. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church on Friday morning, family and friends are asked to go directly to the church for the mass. Interment services will be private.
