Mary L. Starinsky


Mary L. Starinsky, 89, of Avoca, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, March 26 at the Oakwood Terrace Nursing Center, Moosic. She was born in Duryea April 24, 1929 and was the daughter of the late Edward and Bridget (Slusarczyk) Skowronski.

Mary was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont and was a former member of SS Peter and Paul Church, Avoca, having been a past member of the SS Peter and Paul Choir, and its Alter and Rosary Society. She was a graduate of Duryea High School. Mary worked for Pittston Apparel, the International Correspondence School, Scranton and retired after many years of employment as a secretary of the Wilkes-Barre VoTech School of Nursing. Mary was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Avoca and the Red Hats Society, Pittston Chapter.

She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Stephen Starinsky, Sr.; infant daughter Dolores Starinsky; and her sibilings, Bernice and Ann Skowronski, and Edward Skowronski.

She is survived by her children, Rosanne and husband Andrew Wallace of Chinchilla, Barbara and husband David Pinelli of Newburyport, MA, twin sons Joseph Starinsky, of Avoca and Stephen and his wife Janine Kubasko Starinsky, Jr. of Duryea and AnnMarie and her husband Anthony Black of Duryea; grandchildren Eric and wife Tara Wallace, Attorneys Brooke and husband Jared Zane, Marc and his wife Stephanie Wallace, Stephen, Bridget, Matthew, Sophia Starinsky, Joey, Jillian and Christopher Starinsky and Aaron, Jordan and Jacob Black; and great-grandchildren Ava and Bradley Zane, Emilia Wallace and Bianca Wallace. Also surviving are her siblings, Theresa Gudz of Avoca, Joseph Skowronski of Dupont and Ceil Groblewski of Duryea and several nieces and nephews.

Mary’s family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Oakwood Terrace and Hospice Of The Sacred Heart for their kindness and compassion.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 29, at 1:30pm at Sacred Heart Of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call on Thursday evening, March 28, from 4pm-7pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. There will be no procession from the funeral home to the church on Friday afternoon. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church for the mass. Interment services will be held at SS Peter and Paul Cemetery, Avoca.
