Carolyn Mary Banks


Carolyn Mary Banks, 75, of Old Forge, died September 15, 2019 at the Allied Hospice Center, Scranton. She was born in Scranton June 6, 1944 and was the daughter of the late John J. Banks and Hilda (Shelly) Bentler.

Carolyn was a member of Prince of Peace Parish Church (St. Lawrence Church), Old Forge. She attended Scranton Schools and retired from the Aramark Corporation, Scranton after many years of employment. Carolyn enjoyed sewing, baking, and spending time with her family and friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend and she will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

In addition to her parents she is preceded in death by her son Walter “Wally” Kurtz, who died April 12, 2016 and her siblings; Joseph Bentler, Edward Bentler, Bernard Bentler, Harold Bentler, Louis Bentler, Fred Bentler, Alice Bentler Houman, Vincent Bentler, and Delores Banks Michalik.

She is survived by her children, Karl Kurtz of Taylor, Gerald Kurtz of North Scranton and daughter Caroline and husband Jim O’Malley of Duryea. Also surviving are her brothers, Gerald Banks and John Bentler, both of Scranton, her grandchildren Gerald Kurtz, Nichole Mayewski, Caidyn, Kyle, and Logan O’Malley, great-grandchildren Joshua, Ayden, Skyllar and Jamie and numerous nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 10am at Prince of Peace Parish Church, 620 S. Main St., Old Forge with Fr. August Riccardi officiating. Friends may call for visitation at the church from 9am until the time of service.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
