Albert J. “Pablo” Wycallis, Sr., 79, passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022, after a six-year struggle with cancer.
A lifelong resident of Duryea, Al was bone in Taylor on October 2, 1942, the son of the late John and Susan Yager Wycallis. He attended Duryea schools and joined the US Marine Corps at age 17, serving from 1960-1964. He was a disabled veteran due to exposure of contaminated water while serving at Camp Lejeune, NC.
AL was a skilled carpenter, spending his entire life in the building trade remodeling and building homes. His son, Al, Jr., learned from him and they worked together until his illness.
Al has a lifetime membership in the VFW Post 1227 Duryea and was also a member of the Duryea American Legion. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He enjoyed horse racing and was a regular patron at Mohegan Sun Pocono. He loved country music, watching old cowboy movies, and sports. He was an expert at making homemade Baileys, always sharing with family and friends.
He was a loving father, brother, and friend. He will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
In addition to his parents, Al was preceded in death by his niece and goddaughter Krista Cameli and nephew John Cameli.
He is survived by his devoted son and caregiver, with whom he resided, Albert, Jr., Duryea; sister Marianne Wycallis Cameli and husband Gene, Pittston Twp; brother John “Jack” Wycallis, Darmstadt, Germany; stepdaughter Michele Williams, Avoca; and faithful dog Riley.
A mass of Christian burial will take place at 2:30pm on Friday, April 1, 2022, at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Holy Rosary Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea. Friends may call for visitation at the church from 1:30pm until time of mass. AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
Private interment will take place at a later date in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Duryea.
