Alex “Al” Burnis, 89, of Olyphant, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Hospice Of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore.  Born in Scranton on May 9, 1936, and was the son of the late Stanley and Kathleen (Brace) Burnis.


Al was a dedicated and engaged member of his community. He was one of the founding members of the Keystone Emergency Unit Ambulance Service in Scranton and operated, Advanced Medical Associates, of Scranton.  He was also an active member of the North Scranton Rotary Club.


A man of deep faith Al faithfully attended daily 6:30am mass at St. Peter’s Cathedral Church, Scranton. He cherished spending time with his many friends, particularly enjoying trips to the Mohegan Sun Casino.  Above all, he treasured time spent with his beloved family.  Al will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Ann Marie Marcinko.


Al is survived by his daughter, Catherine Heckman and her husband Thomas, of Dupont. Grandchildren, Melissa Rice and her husband Damon, of Quakertown, PA and Michelle Clark and her husband Dan, of Olyphant.  Also surviving are his great grandchildren, Lucas, Talim, Zachary, Andrew and Kieran, and many nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be privately held at the convenance of the family.


Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services 255 McAlpine St. Duryea.
