Alice R. Coyle M.D., 66, of Avoca, passed away Friday afternoon at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton from injuries sustained in an automobile incident earlier that day.

Born on May 30, 1959 in Scranton, and raised in Avoca, she was the daughter of the late Edward and Jean Reardon Coyle. She was a loving and devoted daughter, sister, aunt, and godmother who will be missed by all who knew her.
After graduating from Scranton Preparatory School in 1977 and the University of Scranton in 1981, Dr. Coyle embarked on a remarkable career in orthopedic medicine. She graduated from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia in 1985 and completed her surgical residency at the New York University-Bellevue Medical Center in 1990.
She continued her education by completing a Hand
and Upper Extremity Surgery Fellowship at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in 2003 and had been certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery since 1992. Throughout her career, Dr. Coyle was employed by various practices in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Virginia.
She enjoyed helping others, gardening, and spending time at her beloved lake house.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Atty. Thomas Coyle in 2004. She is survived by her sister Mary Coyle of Avoca; brothers Sean Coyle and his wife Dana, of Denver, Colorado, and Michael Coyle and his wife Michele of Avoca; niece Jean Coyle and her wife Amy Ambachtsheer of Edgewater, Florida; nephew Michael Coyle Jr. of Avoca; and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 9:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea with a mass of Christian burial held at 10:00 am at Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, 715 Hawthorne St., Avoca with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call for visitation on Wednesday evening, October 15, from 4pm-7pm. Interment will be held in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Avoca.
