Attio “Al” Menichini

Attio “Al” Menichini, 88, of Pittston Twp., passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 29, 2022, at Allied Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Scranton. He was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife June (Sickler) Menichini, who passed away on May 21, 2019. They would have celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary this November.

Born August 4, 1934, in Pittston Township, he was the son of the late Ernesto and Mafalda (Marcellini) Menichini. He was a graduate of Pittston Township High School.

Attio was a skilled carpenter and an exceptionally hard worker, working locally with several companies, and operating his own contracting business at one point. However, he found his greatest professional satisfaction while working for Wilkes University, from where he retired in 2004.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener, and instilled an appreciation for those things in his children. He mostly enjoyed simply spending time with his wife and family, whether at home, out shopping or out to eat, happily serving as chauffeur to June, who did not drive. His roots had been planted in Pittston Township long ago, and firmly remained there throughout his life, with several generations of his family – children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren – now doing so as well.

He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded

in death by son John “Jack” Menichini, grandson Joey Sofa, and sisters Elsie Stubbs and Java Sperazza.

He is survived by his four children: Thomas and wife Patricia, Avoca; Paul, Pittston Township; Margo and husband Joseph Sofa, Havertown; and William and Stacey Wesolowski, Avoca; eight grandchildren: Amy Menichini and David Davis, Dupont; Brandy Menichini and Rob Wright, Dupont; Tom Menichini and fiancée Kristina O’Hara, Pittston Township; Jennifer Menichini Drahus and husband Johnny, Pittston Township; Christa Menichini and Andrew Layne, Negaunee, MI; Cait Quaile and husband Bob, Havertown; Abbigail Menichini, Avoca; and Ashley Menichini and fiancée Dana LaSala, Tinton Falls, NJ; and eleven great-grandchildren: Skylar Montgomery, Tabytha Bastek, Brandon Bastek, Bryce Davis, Tyler Riggs, Cecelia Menichini, Jemma Drahus, Logan Layne, Avery Layne, Greyson Quaile and Collins Quaile. He is also survived by sisters Arlene Brown, Lansdale; Vivian Beiswenger and husband Barry, North Wales; Lydia Trumbull and husband Dave, Elkton, MD; brother Ernie “Butch” Menichini, Pittston Township; and sister-in-law, Margaret Krishak, Tunkhannock.

A blessing service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2022, at 10:30am at the Cathedral Cemetery, 1708 Oram St., Scranton with Fr. Phillip Sladicka of Queen of The Apostles Parish Church, Avoca officiating. Friends may call on Friday evening October 7th from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
