Audrey Roberts Yager, Duryea, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 27th at Moses Taylor Hospital with her family by her side, after a brief illness. She was the widow of Robert Yager, Sr., who passed away in 2002.
Born to the late Raymond Roberts and Charlotte Piontkowski Roberts, she was a lifelong resident of Duryea and member of Holy Rosary Parish. She grew up in difficult times, and as the third oldest of eleven children and senior daughter she understood her additional role as a surrogate mother. She carried this out with unwavering strength and devotion and made every effort to ensure that each of her brothers and sisters knew that they were loved and would be taken care of, despite the challenges that many families faced at that time.
She attended Holy Rosary Grade School and Duryea High School, where she excelled academically. Upon graduation, she accepted a position with Bell Telephone in Philadelphia, and soon thereafter married the love of her life, Robert Yager, Sr. Their union produced two children Robert, Jr., and Maria, whom she loved with all her heart. While there were many great moments in her life, without question, the two most special days to her were the ones when she became a grandmother to Audrey and Jake. Her name affectionately changed to Yaya for the last 18 years, and she accepted that name proudly. She always believed that having those two blessings in her life sustained her through her very serious medical illness and the twenty joyous years of her remission.
Audrey made every effort in life to help anyone in need, whether family, friend or total stranger. Those who knew her could say without a doubt that she didn’t say a bad word about anyone, unless of course, they crossed her or were a Republican. (Sorry Mom just wanted to give you a laugh). She will be greatly missed, but the many wonderful memories that we all have will continue to live in our hearts. She is certainly at peace in the love of our Lord and undoubtedly praying that every one of us lives happy, healthy and devout lives of faith until the day that we are united with her once again.
Surviving are her loving children, son Dr. Robert Yager of Duryea, daughter Dr. Maria Yager Munley, and husband Attorney James Christopher of Waverly Township; grandchildren Audrey and Jake Munley of Waverly Township; siblings Jim Roberts and Maggie Roberts of Duryea, Betty Yerrick of Scranton, and Suzie Luks and husband Mike of Pittston; nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, please take the time to do something nice for someone in need. Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Rosary School, 125 Stephenson Street, Duryea.
A mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, at 10:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea, with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday evening, May 31st from 5-8pm at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church for the mass. There will be no procession from the funeral home. Interment will be privately held at St. John’s Cemetery, Duryea.
Deepest condolences to the family.
We’re very saddened upon hearing about the passing of Audrey.. She went above and beyond to help my son Stephen try to get away from his dad… She was very wonderful to both my husband and I and will be greatly missed… RIP our dear friend. Mary and Bob Ryan
Dear Family,
I am saddened to learn of Audrey’s passing. I had last heard from her on 17 May when she shared some of her wonderful baked goods and some other items.
We were friends in high school and a short time thereafter. She always amazed me with her keen memory of past good times and her diligence in sending greetings for various occasions.
When we both had grandchildren and Maria’s Audrey and our Olivia appeared in some
Scranton Prep productions, she relished in sharing the joy that this new phase of life gave her.
May Our Blessed Lord give you comfort in bearing her loss. May she Rest In Peace after a life so well lived.
