Barbara Frew, 86, of Avoca, passed away Saturday, May 23, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Lykens, Pennsylvania, on August 20, 1939, she was the daughter of the late John and Ethel (Warfield) Lechleitner.

Barbara was a faithful member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea. She was a graduate of Porter High School in Tower City and devoted many years of service as a medical secretary for Dr. Gerald Gibbons in Pittston.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph W. Frew, who passed away on June 2, 2022.
She is survived by her daughters, Maria Balchune and her husband, Hans, of Duryea; Lisa Gromelski and her husband, James, of Duryea; and Jina Kohl and her husband, Peter, of Mountaintop. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Krista Gromelski, Aimee Balchune, Matthew Gromelski and his fiancée, Kristen, Brooke Blaker and her husband, Joshua, Rachael Kohl, Sydney Kohl, and Morgan Gromelski; step-grandchildren, Sean Kohl and Annie Strausser and her husband, Brad; seven great-grandchildren; her sister, Kathy Lechleitner of Tower City; and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Parish in Duryea, with the Rev. Michael Bryant officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Avoca.
Arrangements have been by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
