Bernadine Thompson

Bernadine Thompson, 83, of Duryea, passed away on Wednesday, December 8th at the home of her son James in Clarks-Summit, while under the care of Hospice. She was born in Wilkes-Barre, July 20, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Michael and Mary Kostak.

Bernadine was a member of Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, Duryea. She was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Catholic High School.


Besides spending time with her beloved children as well as friends and family, Bernie had a passion of helping others. Bernie was a long-standing member of AA for 37 years and continued to help as much as she could. Bernie had a bright personality and would pass time reading her prayers. May she gain her wings and fly.


In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Janice Sheerin.


Bernadine is survived by her daughter, Maureen Taroli and her husband Louis, of Duryea; her sons James Thompson and his wife Charlene, of Clarks Summit and Michael Thompson and his wife Lisa of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; her granddaughter Angie Kostak; her siblings, Mary Ann Razzano, of NJ., Michael Kostak, of NJ., Leonard Kostak of NJ., Joan Snyder of Wilkes-Barre and Joseph Kostak of Wilkes-Barre; and numerous nieces and nephews.


Bernadine’s family would like to extend their gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful and compassionate care that they received from the nurses and staff of Personal Home Health Care and Hospice.


A mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, December 16, at 9:00am at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea with Fr. Michael Bryant officiating. Interment will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Griffin Pond Animal Shelter, 967 Griffin Pond Rd., Clarks-Summit, PA 18411
