Bernard C. Strobel, Sr., 87, of Duryea passed away on Thursday, August 4, 2022, at his home. Bernie was born in the Georgetown Section of Wilkes-Barre Twp., as the son of the late Joseph C. Strobel, Sr., and Anna Krutulis Strobel.
He was a graduate of Wilkes-Barre Twp. High School, Wyoming Seminary School of Business, and attended Kings College.
Bernard was a veteran of three years in the US Army during peacetime and attained the rank of Sergeant. He served in France, and the former Governors Island, NY City.
After military service, he was employed by Leslie Fay, formerly of Kingston, as assistant manager of the data processing department. Bernard then relocated to Philadelphia and was employed with the US Postal Service. He then enlisted in the PA State Police and served as a trooper; serving at Greensburg, Bethlehem, and the Dunmore barracks and retired after 27 years of service with an honorable discharge.
When Bernard met his future wife, their eyes met and that was that. Helen was his buddy and better fisherman, as her 6lb. walleye backs her up. They enjoyed many trips driving to Atlantic City and staying at the casinos.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers; Dr. Joseph B. Strobel D.C., Charles J. Strobel, and his sister Leona (Lee) Strobel, B.S.R.N.
He is survived by his wife Helen Jones Strobel, having celebrated their 53rd year anniversary of marriage in March. Also surviving are his sons Bernie Strobel and his wife Lisa and Ryan W. Strobel and his wife Brenda as well as his grandchildren; Lexi, Chelcie, Peyton and Ryan (R.J).
Funeral arrangements will be privately held.
